What is argon?

Argon is a kind of invisible air that lives inside other kinds of air.

Imagine you're playing with a balloon. When you blow it up, you’re putting air inside it, mostly oxygen and nitrogen, which are the main players in our air. But there’s also some argon hiding in there too, like a quiet friend who doesn’t shout much but is always around.

Argon is like a sleepy kid at school, it doesn’t do much, but it's very good at staying put. When you open a bottle of fizzy soda and hear that whoosh sound, some of the argon inside might be one of the reasons why.

Argon is found in the air we breathe, about 1% of our air is argon! It’s also used in things like light bulbs, where it helps the light last longer. Think of it as a helper that doesn’t get noticed but makes sure everything works better.
