Appearance is what something looks like when you see it.
Imagine you have a red ball and a blue block. When you look at them, you notice their color, how big they are, and maybe even how smooth or rough they feel. That’s their appearance, the way they show up to your eyes (and sometimes your touch).
What Makes Something Look Different
If you paint the red ball blue, it now looks like the blue block. Even though they're both balls, they have a different appearance because of their color.
Or think about your shoes: one is shiny and new, the other is scuffed up from playing all day. The first looks clean, the second looks messy, that’s how appearance can change depending on what happens to something.
Why Appearance Matters
Sometimes, people decide if they like something based on how it looks. Like when you pick out your favorite shirt because it looks cool, or you choose a toy because it's bright and fun to look at.
So, appearance is just the way things show up in front of you, like how your toys look when you play with them!
Examples
- A child notices that their friend wears a red shirt every day and starts to associate the color red with friendship.
- A person feels more confident when they wear their favorite outfit.
