What is anti-hero?

An anti-hero is a main character who does the right thing but isn't very nice about it. They lack the shiny polish and perfect manners of a traditional hero, yet they still save the day when it counts.

Imagine you are playing with your toys. A traditional hero is like that kid who always shares their favorite toy, smiles big, and says "please" and "thank you." They are kind, brave, and follow all the rules perfectly. Everyone cheers for them because they are so good.

Now meet the anti-hero. This friend still wants to help you when your tower of blocks falls down, but they might grumble while doing it. Maybe they pick up the blocks with a bit of attitude. They don't care much about being polite or looking cool. They act on their own rules, not the grown-up rules.

Think of a superhero who always wears bright white clothes and stands tall vs one who wears dirty jeans, has messy hair, and maybe carries a grumpy pet. The second one is messier and quieter, but if a bad guy shows up, they are the first to jump in. They don't need applause or a trophy. They just want the problem gone so they can go back to their nap.

You see anti-heroes every day:

1. The grumpy old man who secretly feeds the stray cats behind his house. He looks mad, but he loves animals.
2. The detective in movies who solves crimes by breaking rules and yelling at people, even though they are telling the truth.

So, while a hero is like a shining star, an anti-hero is like a sturdy old tree. It might look rough on the outside with bark scratches, but its roots go deep and keep everything safe. They are real, imperfect, and surprisingly dependable.
