An endangered species is a kind of animal or plant that is in big trouble and might disappear if we don’t help them.
Imagine your favorite toy is the only one like it in the whole world. If you lose it, no one else has one like yours anymore, that’s what happens to an endangered species.
Why They Are in Trouble
Sometimes, there are too many people or animals eating their food, or they don’t have enough space to live. It's like if your room was full of people and you had nowhere to play, you’d feel crowded and stressed!
Other times, their homes get destroyed. Maybe a forest is cut down for a new road. That’s like taking away the floor of your toy box, suddenly all your toys are out in the open, and they can’t hide from trouble.
What We Can Do
We can help them by making sure they have enough food, water, and space to live. Sometimes we even build special areas just for them, kind of like a playground just for animals!
By helping them now, we might save them from disappearing forever. That way, future kids will still be able to enjoy the same toys, or in this case, the same wonderful animals!
Examples
