What is Alfvén waves?

Alfvén waves are like ripples that travel through space when magnetism and moving electricity dance together.

Imagine you're on a playground swing. When someone pushes you, you go higher and higher, that's kind of like how Alfvén waves work. In space, there’s something called plasma, which is like a supercharged gas. It has magnetism in it, like invisible strings holding everything together.

Now, when the plasma moves, maybe because of a solar flare or a burst from the sun, it tugs on those magnetic strings. That tug sends out waves, just like when you push someone on a swing and they go up and down. These are Alfvén waves.

How They Move

Think of a slinky. When you shake one end, the coils move along the whole slinky, that's how Alfvén waves travel through space. The magnetic strings stretch and contract as the plasma moves, sending the wave forward like a ripple in water.
