What is age?

Age is how many years you've been around on Earth.

Imagine you have a big jar full of special cookies, one for every year you live. When you're born, your jar is empty. On your first birthday, you put one cookie in the jar. On your second birthday, you add another one. Every year, you get a new cookie. So, if you've got 5 cookies in your jar, that means you’re 5 years old.

How we count age

People usually count how many birthdays they’ve had. A birthday is like a party you have every year, and each time, you grow just a little bit taller or smarter!

Why it matters

Knowing your age helps people know when to give you bigger shoes, bigger clothes, or even more cookies on your birthday! It’s like having a secret map that tells you how much time you’ve been exploring the world.
