What is addictive?

Addictive means something that makes you want to keep using it over and over again, even when you don’t have to.

Imagine you have a favorite toy, maybe a bouncy ball or a spinning top. Every time you play with it, it feels super fun, and you just can’t stop. That’s what addictive feels like! It’s like having a really good snack that you eat again and again because it tastes so good.

What Makes Something Addictive?

Sometimes, addictive things give you a little happy feeling inside, like after eating your favorite candy or finishing a fun game. Your brain notices this happy feeling and says, “I want more of that!”

Other times, addictive things make you feel better when something is hard, like how medicine helps when you're sick. Your brain learns to depend on those feelings and starts asking for them again and again.

So, being addictive is just a fancy way of saying: “This thing makes me want to keep using it because it feels really good or helps me feel better.”
