What is acid?

Acid is like a tiny, invisible cleaner that helps things change when they mix together.

Imagine you have a glass of orange juice, it's sour because it has acid in it. Now think about your favorite soda: when you open it and bubbles come out, that’s also acid doing its job. Acid is like the helper that makes things fizz or taste sour.

How acid works

Acid acts like a cleaner for other stuff. When it meets something else, like water or another kind of juice, it can make big changes happen. It might help bubbles form, or it might make colors change, just like when you mix paint together.

If you ever pour vinegar into baking soda and see it fizz up, that’s acid (from the vinegar) working with the baking soda to create a fun little reaction.

Acid is all around us, in foods we eat, in drinks we love, and even in our bodies. It helps us digest food and keeps things interesting!
