Absorb oxygen means taking in oxygen from the air or water and using it inside your body.
Imagine you're playing on a swing. Every time you go up high, you’re getting more energy to keep swinging. That’s kind of like what absorbing oxygen is, your body gets energy so it can work hard, like running, jumping, or even just thinking!
How it works
When you breathe in, you take in air that has oxygen in it. Your lungs catch the oxygen and send it to your blood. Then the blood carries the oxygen all over your body, like a delivery truck bringing fuel to every car.
Your muscles need this oxygen to stay strong and keep moving, just like how your swing needs more pushes to go higher!
Why it matters
Without absorbing oxygen, you’d feel tired really fast, like after running around for a long time without stopping. But with enough oxygen, you can run, play, laugh, and even dream!
Examples
- Plants take in oxygen during the day and release it at night through their leaves.
- When you exercise, your body needs more oxygen because your muscles are working harder.
