Like Sharing Cookies
Suppose you and your friend are sharing cookies. There are 10 cookies on the plate, and you take 8 of them. Your friend gets 2. So you have 8 out of 10, which is like saying "I got most of the cookies!"
You can also think of it as a race, if there are 10 runners, and 8 of them finished first, that means 8 out of 10 runners did really well!
It's just a way to show how much you have compared to all the things there are.
