"10 to 14 means counting from one group of things to another group that has a little more."
Imagine you have 10 cookies on your plate, and then someone gives you 4 more cookies, now you have 14 cookies in total. That’s like going from having just enough for yourself to having enough for a few friends too.
Counting with Friends
Think of it like playing with blocks:
- You start with 10 blocks.
- Then, your friend brings 4 more blocks.
- Together, you now have 14 blocks, that’s 10 plus 4!
It’s the same as when you count from 10 to 14 on your fingers: you already have 10 fingers up, and then you lift 4 more. That’s how numbers grow, one step at a time!
Examples
- A child counts from 10 to 14 while playing with blocks.
- You count how many apples are in your basket and find there are between 10 and 14.
