What Makes a Planet Habitable?
A habitable planet is one where you can live without needing special gear. On Earth, we have air to breathe, water to drink, and sunlight to warm us up. If Mars had those things too, it would be just like Earth, a place where kids could run around and not worry about getting cold or out of breath.
Right now, Mars has very thin air, kind of like breathing through a straw. It also gets super cold at night, like when you leave your cookies out in the freezer and they turn into ice cubes.
But what if Mars had more air, more water, and wasn’t so chilly? Then it would be a perfect place to build a treehouse or play hide-and-seek, just like Earth! What if Mars was like Earth, a planet where you could play outside and not need a spacesuit?
Imagine Mars is like your favorite playground, but it’s covered in red sand instead of green grass. That’s what Mars looks like today, kind of like a desert on Earth.
