What does TKO stand for in combat sports and how is it achieved?

TKO stands for "Technical Knockout", and it means one fighter wins by making the other too tired or hurt to keep fighting.

Imagine you're playing a game of tag with your friend, but instead of just running, you both have to do push-ups every time you get tagged. After a while, your friend gets so tired from all those push-ups that they can't run anymore, that's like a TKO in combat sports!

In real fights, when one fighter keeps hitting the other really hard or makes them feel dizzy and tired, the referee might step in and say "TKO", meaning the fight is over because the other person just can’t keep going.

How It Happens

  1. Getting Tired: If a fighter is hit so many times that they're out of breath and can't stand up straight, it's like being tired from running too long, they might get TKO'd.
  2. Feeling Dizzy: Sometimes fighters are hit so hard or in the head that they feel wobbly or confused, like when you spin around really fast and then stop, that’s called getting "dazed," and it can lead to a TKO.

A TKO is just a fancy way of saying one fighter was too strong, smart, or tired for the other to keep fighting.
