What Causes the ‘Hiss’ of a Steam Valve?

Steam valves hiss because of the steam escaping quickly. When steam is hot and under pressure, it pushes out through a valve like water rushing from a hose. As it leaves, it makes a hissing sound, just like when you let air escape from a balloon.
