What Causes a ‘Breeze’ on a Sunny Day?

A breeze is like a tiny wind that happens when parts of the air get warm and move. On a sunny day, the ground gets hot from the sun, which warms up the air just above it. This warm air becomes lighter and rises into the sky, making room for cooler air to come in from nearby, and that’s what we feel as a breeze!

The Warm Air Rises

The sun hits the ground like a big heater. The sand or grass gets hot, which warms up the air above it. This warm air is lighter than cool air, so it goes up like a balloon.

Cooler Air Moves In

When warm air goes up, cooler air from nearby comes in to take its place, and that gives us a little wind we call a breeze!
