What Caused the Roman Empire to Collapse?

The Roman Empire collapsed because it got too big and had too many problems all at once.

Imagine you have a big toy castle, and every day you add more towers, walls, and guards. At first, it’s amazing, your castle is the best one in town! But then you keep adding more and more, until you can’t even remember how many rooms there are. That’s what happened to Rome.

The Empire Was Too Big

Rome had so many cities, armies, and people that it was like having a million toy castles all over the world. It got hard for one person, or even one group, to manage everything.

People Started Fighting More

There were also lots of wars with other groups, like the Goths and the Vandals. They would attack Rome like kids knocking down each other’s towers in a game. At the same time, inside Rome, people started fighting for power, just like when your friends argue over who gets to be king of the castle.

So, after many years of being too big, too tired, and too busy fighting, the Roman Empire couldn’t hold on anymore, and it fell down, like a tower knocked over.
