What are wingers and forwards?

A winger is like a super-fast runner who zips down the sides of the field to try and score goals, while a forward is more like a goal-scorer who stands near the net and tries to kick the ball in.

What's a Winger?

Imagine you're playing tag with your friends. A winger is like the friend who runs super fast around the outside of the playground, they’re always trying to catch up to you or tag someone before they get to safety. In soccer, wingers run down the sides of the field and try to pass the ball to a forward, who’s near the goal.

What's a Forward?

A forward is like the friend who stands right at the end of the playground, they're the ones who are most likely to get tagged. In soccer, forwards are close to where the goal is, and their job is to kick the ball into the net to score. They often receive passes from wingers or other players.

When a winger and a forward work together, it's like a tag team, one zips around to get the ball, and the other is ready to finish the play with a goal!
