What are trade goods?

Trade goods are things people swap with each other to get what they need or want.

Imagine you and your friend both have toys, but you like each other’s toys more. Instead of just playing with yours, you might trade, you give your toy to your friend, and they give theirs to you. That toy is a trade good!

Like Sharing Snacks

Think about lunchtime. You have cookies, and your friend has juice boxes. You both want what the other has. So you can trade, you give them a cookie, and they give you a juice box. The cookie and the juice box are trade goods, just like toys.

Why Trade Goods Matter

People use trade goods to get things they don’t have. Maybe your family grows apples but doesn’t have bread. Another family bakes bread but doesn’t have apples. They can trade, apples for bread! That way, both families get what they need without growing or baking everything themselves.

Trading makes life easier, just like sharing snacks or toys does!
