What are tomatoes?

Tomatoes are fruits that grow on plants and taste really good when you put them on pizza or sandwiches.

A tomato is like a red balloon, round, squishy, and sometimes a little bumpy. When you pick one from the garden, it might be soft and juicy inside, just like a watermelon but smaller.

Tomatoes start as tiny green dots on a plant called a tomato vine. The vine is like a ladder with leaves, the tomatoes grow where the rungs are. As time goes by, they turn from green to red, and that’s when you can pick them and eat them.

They have a sweet and tangy flavor, kind of like when you mix lemon juice and honey together. You can eat them raw, cook them, or even put them in sauce, they’re very versatile!

Some tomatoes are small, some are big, and some are even yellow or orange! They come in all shapes and sizes, just like your toys at home.
