What are thoughts?

Thoughts are the whispers your brain makes when it’s trying to figure things out.

Imagine you have a toy box full of different toys, cars, blocks, and maybe even a teddy bear. When you look at them, your brain starts asking questions like “What should I play with first?” or “Can I stack these blocks really high?” Those are thoughts, little messages your brain sends to help you decide what to do next.

How thoughts work

Your brain is like a busy chef in the kitchen. Every time something happens, like seeing a red car or hearing a laugh, it takes a bite of that information and starts cooking up an idea. That idea is a thought, it might be “That car is fast!” or “I want to build a tower with those blocks.”

Sometimes your brain cooks up thoughts so quickly you don’t even notice them, like when you realize you’re hungry without thinking about it. Other times, they take longer, like when you’re trying to remember where you put your favorite toy.

So next time you're playing or solving a puzzle, know that your brain is hard at work, making thoughts all day long!
