The Articles of Confederation were like a rulebook for the original 13 states of America, but it wasn’t perfect.
Imagine you and your friends start a club together. At first, everything is fun and easy. But as time goes on, you realize that no one is in charge of cleaning up after the parties or deciding where to go on field trips. That’s kind of like what happened with the Articles of Confederation, they gave each state a lot of freedom, but didn’t give the whole country enough power to work smoothly together.
Like a Group Project Without a Leader
Think about doing a big group project in school without a leader. Everyone has their own ideas and wants to do things their way. That can make it hard to finish the project on time, or even get it done at all. The Articles of Confederation were like that group project. Each state had its own say, but there wasn’t one strong leader to help everyone agree and work together.
Because of this, the country had trouble paying debts, making laws, and even fighting wars, just like a group project gone wrong!

- States are like friends who agree on rules, but don’t always follow them.
