What are surfaces?

A surface is like the outside part of something you can touch and feel.

Imagine you have a ball, like a basketball. The surface is what your hand feels when you rub it. It’s not the inside of the ball, just the outside layer that you see and touch. Now think about a box, like a shoebox. Its surface is all the sides you can see and maybe even run your fingers along.

What Makes Something a Surface?

A surface doesn’t have to be round or square. It can be any shape, like a table, a wall, or even the top of your head! A surface is just the outside part of something that has space inside it, kind of like how an orange has peel on the outside and juicy parts inside.

Surfaces Are Everywhere

You can find surfaces in lots of places:

  • The floor you walk on
  • The sky above you
  • Your skin

They’re all around you, just waiting for you to notice!
