A surface is like the outside part of something you can touch and feel.
Imagine you have a ball, like a basketball. The surface is what your hand feels when you rub it. It’s not the inside of the ball, just the outside layer that you see and touch. Now think about a box, like a shoebox. Its surface is all the sides you can see and maybe even run your fingers along.
What Makes Something a Surface?
Surfaces Are Everywhere
You can find surfaces in lots of places:
- The floor you walk on
- The sky above you
- Your skin
They’re all around you, just waiting for you to notice!
Examples
- A ball is a surface because it has no edges or corners.
- A table top is a flat surface that you can draw on.
- A cylinder, like a soup can, has both curved and flat surfaces.
