What are subordinates?

A subordinate is someone who helps another person do their job.

Imagine you're playing a game where one person is the captain of a ship, and the others are the crew. The captain gives orders, and the crew follows them, they’re the subordinates. Just like how your teacher might ask you and your classmates to help clean up the classroom, and you all become the helpers in that situation.

Like a Team

Think of it like a team. One person is the leader, and the others are the subordinates because they support the leader by doing what they're asked to do. Maybe the leader is the one who starts the game, and the subordinates are the ones passing the ball or running after it.

Everyday Example

When you help your mom cook dinner, you’re a subordinate in that kitchen team! She’s the leader, and you're helping her out, just like how helpers work together in a real kitchen.
