What are strong winds?

Strong winds are when air moves really fast from one place to another, like a big push that makes things move around.

Imagine you're playing outside and someone gives your toy car a super hard shove, it zooms off! That’s kind of what happens with strong winds. The air is like the person pushing, and everything in its way, leaves, trees, even you if you’re not careful, gets moved around quickly.

What Makes Wind Strong?

Wind happens because air moves from where it's warm to where it's cool. When there's a big difference between how warm or cool two places are, the air moves faster, making strong winds.

Think of it like this: if you're on a slide and you start at the top (warm air), you zoom down really fast, that’s strong wind. If you start just a little higher up (mild wind), you go down slower, that's gentle breeze.

Sometimes, when the push is really big, like during a storm, the wind can feel like it's trying to carry you off your feet!
