What are strong emotions?

Strong emotions are big feelings that take over your whole body and mind, like when you’re really excited or super sad.

Imagine you have a favorite toy, let's say it’s a bright red ball. When you're happy, it feels like the ball is bouncing around inside you, making you want to jump and laugh. That’s joy! Now imagine someone takes your ball away. All of a sudden, you feel like the ball has fallen into a deep hole, and you’re really upset, that's sadness.

Like a Storm in Your Body

Sometimes, emotions are like weather. When you're angry, it feels like there’s a thunderstorm inside you, your heart beats fast, your face gets hot, and you might even shout. That’s a lot of strong emotion!

When you’re scared, maybe it feels like the lights in the room went out, everything seems bigger and louder than usual.

Emotions Are Real

You can’t see emotions, but they're real, just like your toy ball or the storm outside. They come from things that happen around you, like a friend laughing, a big surprise, or even something you really want. And when strong emotions happen, it's okay to feel them, they’re part of being alive!
