What are stem cells?

Stem cells are like super builders who can become almost anything in the body.

Imagine you have a box of building blocks, each block can be turned into a house, a car, or even a tree. That's kind of what stem cells do! They're special cells that can turn into different types of cells, like skin cells, blood cells, or brain cells.

Like a Chameleon

Stem cells are also like a chameleon, they can change their color (or in this case, their shape and job) to fit in with other cells around them. Some stem cells are like kids who grow up to be doctors; they might become heart cells or brain cells, depending on what the body needs.

The Super Builder Team

In your body, there’s a whole team of super builders working together, some are in your bone marrow, others in your brain. They help repair wounds, replace old cells, and even make new ones when you're growing. Without them, your body wouldn’t be able to fix itself or grow.

So, stem cells are the special workers that help keep your body healthy and strong, like a team of builders who can become anything they need to be!
