What are squall lines?

A squall line is like a super-fast, loud storm that moves across the sky like a wall.

Imagine you're playing outside on a sunny day, and suddenly, out of nowhere, a big, dark cloud comes rolling in, fast! It brings strong wind, rain, and maybe even thunder. That’s what happens with a squall line.

Think of a squall line like a group of storm warriors standing shoulder to shoulder, all moving together across the sky. Each warrior is a thunderstorm, they're tall, dark, and powerful. When they move in one direction, they bring wind, rain, or even hail with them.

If you've ever been at the beach and seen a big wave come rolling in, that’s kind of like what happens with a squall line. Instead of water, it's clouds and weather, and instead of a wave, it's a whole wall of storms coming your way!

When they reach you, it feels like everything changes, the sky gets darker, the wind gets stronger, and suddenly, you're in the middle of a storm that didn’t seem to be there before.
