What are spinlocks?

Spinlocks are like super-fast doormen who make sure only one person can go through a door at a time.

Imagine you and your friends all want to enter a fun room, but there's only one entrance. A regular doorman might say, “Come back in five minutes,” which makes everyone wait. But a spinlock is more like a super-fast doorman who says, “If I’m busy, just keep spinning in place until I'm ready for you!” That way, no one has to wait very long, they just spin around and try again quickly.

How Spinlocks Work

Think of the door as a shared resource, maybe it's a toy that only one kid can use at a time. When one person gets through the door, they “lock” it for others. Everyone else keeps trying to go in by spinning around (like doing the "spin" dance), checking every few seconds if the lock is still held.

This works really fast because instead of waiting long periods, everyone just tries again quickly, like how you might tap your foot while waiting for a friend to finish playing with a toy.
