What are spiders?

Spiders are creepy-crawly creatures that live in webs and love to catch little bugs for lunch.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, maybe a ball or a block. Now picture a spider as someone who builds a net around the toy, just like you would if you wanted to trap it. That’s what spiders do! They weave sticky threads in the air to make webs, and when little insects walk into them, they get stuck, and that's lunch time for the spider!

Spiders have eight legs, just like eight of your favorite crayons. They move by walking on these legs, and sometimes they jump from one place to another, it’s like how you might jump from one bed to another when you're playing hide-and-seek.

Most spiders eat other tiny creatures, like flies or mosquitoes. Some even catch bigger bugs than themselves! When a spider catches its meal, it uses special tools, called mouthparts, to suck the juice out of the bug, just like how you might drink from a straw.

Spiders are everywhere, hiding in corners, under leaves, and sometimes even in your bedroom, but they're not scary, just curious little creatures with a big appetite!
