What are spices?

Spices are tiny ingredients that make food taste super interesting and fun.

Imagine you're eating plain pasta, it’s good, but not extra good. Now picture sprinkling some salt on it, or maybe a pinch of pepper. That’s when the magic starts! Spices are like little helpers that add new flavors to your food, making it taste more exciting.

What Do Spices Look Like?

Some spices are powdered, like cinnamon or chili powder, they look like tiny confetti you can sprinkle on top of your food. Others come in whole forms, like peppercorns (they’re just small black balls) or cloves (little red nubs that smell really strong). You can even find spices in oil, like cumin oil or turmeric oil, which you use to cook with.

Why Do We Use Spices?

People have used spices for thousands of years! They help make food taste better, but they also helped people travel across the world, because spices were so valuable, they were worth a lot of gold. Today, we use them just like our grandparents did, to bring more flavor and fun into every meal.
