What are special engines and wings?

Special engines and wings are machine parts that work together to lift heavy things into the sky.

The Engine: The Big Blower

Think about a balloon. When you let go of its neck, air shoots out one way, and whoosh! The balloon flies the other way. That is exactly what an engine does. It pulls in lots of air, mixes it with fuel (like gas), and burns it up quickly. This creates hot, fast air that blasts out the back.

Imagine you are standing on a skateboard. If someone pushes you hard from behind, you zoom forward. The engine is like that strong push. It gives the plane or rocket its forward speed. Without this power, nothing would move.

The Wing: The Hand in the Wind

Now, imagine sticking your hand out of a car window while driving. You can feel the air pushing against it. If you tilt your hand just right, the wind doesn't just push back; it lifts your hand upward! Wings do this same thing, but on a huge scale. They are shaped like curved spoons. As the plane moves forward because of its engines, air rushes over and under these curved shapes. The air pressure pushes up harder than gravity pulls down, so the whole machine floats into the clouds.

So, engines provide the push to move, and wings provide the lift to stay up. They are best friends: you usually need both to fly high!
