What are space stations?

A space station is like a big house that floats around up high in space, where people can live and work.

Imagine you have a favorite treehouse where you go to play with your friends every day. Now picture that treehouse being carried by a giant rocket way above the clouds, that's kind of what a space station feels like for astronauts!

Like a Treehouse in Space

A space station has rooms, just like a house. Astronauts sleep there, eat meals, and even exercise to stay strong. Sometimes they do experiments or look out of the windows to see Earth below.

How It Moves

The space station moves around Earth because it's being pulled by gravity, kind of like how you're pulled down when you jump up. But instead of falling back to Earth, it keeps going in a circle, just like a toy car goes around a track.

Sometimes other spaceships visit the space station, bringing new astronauts or supplies for food and air. It's like when your friend brings snacks to share at the treehouse!
