A space mission is when people send robots or astronauts on a journey through space to learn about our universe.
Imagine you have a toy car that can drive really far away, like to the other side of your neighborhood. A space mission is kind of like that, but instead of a toy car, it’s a spaceship, and instead of your neighborhood, it’s all the way to the moon, or even farther to other planets.

Sometimes, people go on space missions alone, just one person in a spaceship. Other times, they go in groups, like a team of explorers. These teams might live inside their spaceship for months while they travel through space and study new places.
Sending Messages from Far Away
Space missions also help us send messages across the universe. It's like writing a letter to your friend who lives far away, except instead of a letter, it’s information about stars, planets, and maybe even life on other worlds!
Examples
- The Apollo missions were journeys where humans traveled to the Moon and came back.
