What are social networks?

A social network is like having a bunch of friends who all know each other and help you stay connected.

Imagine you're playing with your toys in the park. You have some friends there, and they also have their own friends. If you want to find out what’s happening with them, or maybe even make new friends, you can talk through them, like a chain of friends passing messages.

Like a playground map

Think of a social network as a big map of a playground where every kid is a person, and the paths between them are how they talk. You walk along the path to your friend, or maybe even to their friend’s house through them. Some kids have more friends than others, just like some people on social networks have many connections.

Sharing toys (and messages)

When you share your toy with a friend, and then they tell someone else about it, that’s like how messages spread in a social network. You don’t need to be the one who starts the message, you can still hear about it from someone else! It's fun because everyone is connected, even if they're not all playing together at once.
