What are sneakers?

Sneakers are shoes you wear when you want to run, jump, or play all day long.

Imagine your favorite pair of socks, but with a rubber sole underneath, that’s basically what sneakers feel like. They’re soft on your feet and help you move faster, just like how your socks make it easier for you to wiggle your toes.

How Sneakers Work

Sneakers are made of different parts:

  • The top part, called the upper, is usually made of fabric or leather, it’s what wraps around your foot.
  • The middle part, called the midsole, is soft and squishy. It helps cushion your steps, like a big, bouncy pillow.
  • The bottom part, called the outsole, is hard and rubbery. It grips the ground so you don’t slip when you run or jump.

Some sneakers even have little bumps on them to help you get extra bounce, it’s like having tiny trampolines under your feet!

You can wear sneakers for school, sports, or just running around outside, they’re perfect for any kind of play.
