What are snakes?

Snakes are creepy crawly creatures that slither around without legs or wings.

Imagine you're walking through a garden and you see something long and skinny moving across the grass, that’s a snake! They don’t walk like people or dogs; they wiggle from one side to the other, kind of like how your socks slide off your feet when you’re wearing them too tight. Some snakes are small enough to hide under a rock, while others can be as long as a big couch.

How Snakes Move

Snakes don’t have legs, so they use their muscles and scales to move. Think of it like sliding on a really slippery floor, you push yourself forward with your feet, but snakes push themselves forward with their whole body!

What Snakes Eat

Some snakes eat bugs, others eat mice or even other snakes! They can open their mouths really wide because they don’t have teeth that stick out, they just swallow their food whole, like a big gulp of soup. Sometimes you can see them swallowing something as big as a mouse, and it looks almost like magic, but it's not! It’s just how snakes eat.
