What are simple mechanisms?

Simple mechanisms are tools that help us do things more easily, just like having a helper when you're playing.

Imagine you're trying to lift a big box by yourself, it's hard! But if you use a lever, like a seesaw, you can push down on one end and the other end lifts up, making it easier to move the box. That’s what a simple mechanism does: it helps us make work simpler.

Think of your toy car, when you press down on the handle, the wheels turn. That's like using a wheel and axle, another kind of simple mechanism. It turns pushing into rolling, which is easier for your car to move.

Or maybe you've used a pulley before, like when you pull up a flag on a pole. A pulley changes the direction of the force, so instead of pulling down, you can push up, just like using a slide in reverse!
