What are shrubs?

Shrubs are like little trees that stay short and cozy on the ground.

Imagine you're playing outside, and you see a group of plants that have branches and leaves, but they don't grow all the way up to the sky like big trees. That’s what shrubs look like! They’re usually shorter than people, so you can easily reach them or even hug them if you want.

What Shrubs Do

Shrubs often live in gardens, parks, and near your house. Some of them have flowers that bloom in spring, making the neighborhood look colorful. Others have soft leaves that you can touch, like how you might feel grass under your feet when you run around.

How They’re Different from Trees

While trees grow tall with one thick trunk, shrubs usually have many smaller stems coming out of the ground, all growing together. Think of it like a group of friends holding hands, each one is a bit different but they all stick together in a happy cluster!

You might even see some shrubs that have berries or small fruits, just like how you can find snacks in your kitchen!
