What are shrubs?

Shrubs are like little trees that stay short and friendly, just like your favorite neighbor who never grows too tall.

Imagine you're playing in a park, there are big trees that reach up to the sky, but then there are these smaller plants nearby. Those are shrubs! They’re like trees’ shorter cousins. You can touch them easily, and sometimes they even have pretty flowers or berries that you can pick.

What Shrubs Look Like

Shrubs usually have many branches growing close together near the ground, making them look bushy, kind of like a hedge you might see around someone’s house. Some shrubs have leaves all year round, while others lose their leaves in winter, just like some trees do.

Why We Love Shrubs

Shrubs are great for gardens because they’re tough and can live in different kinds of soil. They also make lovely borders or even little forests you can run through, perfect for hiding from your brother when he’s trying to catch you!

Some shrubs, like the ones with red berries, are even good for making juice or snacks, just like how your mom might use strawberries!
