What are sensing technologies?

Sensing technologies are like super-smart eyes and ears that help machines understand what’s going on around them.

Imagine you have a toy robot that can tell when you're near it, that's sensing technology at work! It uses special tools, called sensors, to detect things like light, sound, touch, or even how hot or cold something is. These sensors are kind of like your own senses: if you close your eyes and listen carefully, you can tell if someone is talking nearby, that’s like a sound sensor.

How Sensors Work

Think of a doorbell. When the button is pressed, it sends a signal to the bell. A sensor works in a similar way. It notices something has changed, maybe you walked into a room, or your phone got colder, and then tells the machine what it saw.

Some sensors are like invisible helpers that work all day long, letting devices know when to turn on, when to stop, or even how far away something is. They're used in everything from smartwatches to self-driving cars, just like how your senses help you play, learn, and explore!
