How the Doorbell Works

Imagine your cell has a receptor on its skin, like a doorbell button. When a hormone presses the button, it does not go inside. Instead, it triggers a second messenger inside the room. This messenger is like a loud chime or a flashing light that tells everyone in the house, "Pay attention!"

The first messenger (the hormone) stays outside. The second messenger (often a tiny molecule like cAMP) runs around inside, turning on lights, opening windows, or starting engines. It amplifies the signal so the whole cell knows what to do.
