Sea caves are holes in rocks that you can swim or walk into, right at the beach.
Imagine you're playing with a big block of clay, and you keep pressing your fingers into it, over and over again. Eventually, your finger makes a nice round hole. That’s kind of what happens to rocks near the ocean. Waves come crashing in like a giant water toy, knocking on the rock every day, and after many years, they make big holes in the rock.
How sea caves are made
Waves are like strong little kids who never stop playing. They hit the rocks with lots of energy. If the rock is already a bit broken or has cracks, it’s easier for the waves to make a hole. Over time, these holes get bigger and deeper, just like when you dig in the sandbox more and more.
What sea caves look like
Sometimes, sea caves are dark inside, like going into a tunnel. You might see water swirling around your feet or hear the sound of the ocean echoing from deep inside the hole. It's like stepping into a secret hideout, right at the beach!
Examples
- Sea caves are made when the ocean slowly eats away at cliffs over many years.
