What are rulers?

A ruler is a tool that helps you measure how long or wide something is.

Imagine you have a toy car, and you want to know how long it is from one end to the other. A ruler is like a line of tiny steps, each step is 1 centimeter (or about 1/2 an inch). You can put the ruler next to your toy car, and see how many steps fit along its length.

A ruler has numbers on it, like a counting game. The numbers go from 0 to 30 or even more. When you line up the start of the ruler with one end of your toy car, you look at where the other end lines up. That number tells you how long your toy car is.

We use rulers when we want to be fair and precise, like when drawing a picture, building a tower with blocks, or even baking cookies! If you measure both sides of a cookie cutter with a ruler, they should match so the cookies turn out just right.
