What are resonance effects?

Resonance effects happen when something vibrates just right so it gets bigger and more powerful.

Imagine you're on a swing. You pump your legs back and forth to go higher, that’s like resonance in action! If you push the swing at the exact moment it comes back to you, it keeps going higher and higher. But if you push it when it's moving away, it doesn’t get as high. That’s because you're matching the natural rhythm of the swing.

How It Feels Like a Bounce

Think about jumping on a trampoline with friends. If everyone jumps at the same time, the trampoline goes way higher than if just one person is bouncing, that's resonance in action, too! The trampoline moves more because all the bounces line up.

When It Gets Loud

Resonance also makes things sound louder. Like when you blow across a bottle and it hums. If you have a bunch of bottles with just the right amount of water, they can all sing together, like a choir made of glass!
