What are reputation mechanisms?

Reputation mechanisms are like star ratings on your favorite toy store app, they help you know who is trustworthy.

Imagine you're playing a game where you trade toys with other kids in the playground. Some kids always give you good toys in return, while others take your toys and never give anything back. Over time, you start to remember which kids are fair and which ones aren't. That’s like having a reputation, it shows how good someone is at keeping their promises.

How Reputation Works

Every time you trade with another kid, you can leave them a rating, just like leaving a review on a website. If they gave you a cool toy, you might give them a 5-star rating. If they took your candy and didn’t share, you might give them a 1-star. Other kids look at these ratings before trading with someone, it helps them decide who to trust.

Sometimes, the more stars a kid has, the better their toys are, or the more likely they’ll be invited to play special games! So reputation mechanisms help everyone know who is reliable and who isn’t, just by looking at how others have rated them.
