A reformation is when people change or fix something important that wasn’t working very well before.
Imagine you have a toy box that’s full of toys, but all the blocks are mixed up with the cars and the balls. It's hard to find what you want when you play. A reformation would be like deciding to sort the toys into different sections so it’s easier to find your favorite block or car.
Like a Big Change in a Church
Sometimes, people change things not just in toy boxes but also in big places like churches. For example, there was a time when many people believed one thing about God and how to pray, kind of like having only one rule for playing with toys. But then some people thought the rules weren’t fair or clear enough, so they started changing them, that’s a reformation!
It's like if your friends said, “We’re going to change the way we play,” and suddenly you had new rules, new ways of sharing, and even new kinds of toys.
A Reformation Can Happen Many Times
Just like you might rearrange your toy box many times as you grow up, once for blocks, once for cars, there were also reformations in history that changed how people thought about God, church, and life.
Examples
- The Protestant Reformation was like a new way of thinking about God that spread across Europe.
- People began to read the Bible themselves instead of just listening to priests.
