What are reciprocal obligations?

Reciprocal obligations are when two people or groups promise to help each other out.

Imagine you and your friend are playing on the swings. You push your friend, so they can go higher. Then your friend pushes you back, that’s fair! You both give each other a turn. This is like reciprocal obligations: you do something for someone else, and then they do something for you in return.

Think of it like sharing snacks at lunch. If you bring cookies and I bring juice, we can trade, I get cookies, you get juice. Later on, if I bring sandwiches and you bring fruit, we trade again. We both help each other out, just like reciprocal obligations. It’s not magic, it’s just a friendly promise to help each other when needed.
