What are probability distributions?

Probability distributions are like playground maps that show us where the fun is most likely to happen.

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game on the playground. Sometimes you pick the swings, sometimes the slide, and sometimes the sandbox. A probability distribution is like a map that shows how often each of these choices happens, it tells you which activity is more likely to be picked than others.

Think of a bag full of different colored marbles: red, blue, green. If you reach in and pull one out without looking, the probability distribution is like a list that says “there are 5 red marbles, 3 blue ones, and 2 green ones.” That means it’s more likely to pick a red marble than any other color.

When we use probability distributions, we’re not just guessing, we're making smart choices based on how things usually go. Like knowing that if you take the slide most of the time, your friends might think you're the slide champion!
