What are precipitation events?

Precipitation events are when water falls from the sky to the ground, just like raindrops falling on your nose during a storm.

Imagine you're playing outside and suddenly it starts raining. That’s a precipitation event!

What makes it happen?

Think of the sky like a big container full of water. When the air gets warm, it can hold more water. But when it cools down, that water has nowhere to go, it turns into drops and falls as rain, snow, or even hail.

Sometimes the sky is really busy with water, and lots of drops fall all at once. That’s like a big splash in the bathtub, we call that a heavy rainstorm or a snow flurry.

Why do they matter?

Precipitation events help make our plants grow and fill up lakes and rivers. They're like nature's way of giving the Earth a drink. And if you’re outside, they might mean it’s time to grab an umbrella, or turn into a water splash!
